FUNDS POUR IN FOR TURVY TOPSEY

-

Kind-hearted animal lovers have helped raise funds for Topsey, the missing cat that invaded a football pitch and halted the match, after it was revealed she had been missing for months and was in need of an operation.

Torti Topsey went viral in February after invading the Hillsborough football pitch, stopping Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic players in their tracks as they tried to secure the frightened feline. Once caught, Topsey was taken to Spire Vets in Chesterfield, where her microchip was read and owner,Alison Jubb, called. Alison revealed that Topsey lived 2.5 miles away from the Hillsborough pitch and had not been seen in seven months after escaping from a cattery in June 2021.

It was discovered that nine-year-old Topsey was suffering from a broken spine, believed to be caused by an attack by another animal, and was in need of extensive and expensive treatment.A JustGiving page was set up to help Topsey and [at the time of writing] £11,727 had been raised.

Topsey’s JustGiving page says:“...as Mum didn’t expect to see me again, I have no health insurance, so although the vet believes I can live a full, healthy and happy life, I first need a CT Scan, an MRI scan, and an operation. Unfortunately, there is a huge cost to making me better, with an estimate of £9,000 for the scans and operation on top of the fees so far, and for recuperation. Any funds received over the cost of veterinary fees will be donated to Pet Samaritans.”
