PLAY IS THE WAY

-

Iwanted to write in to thank Clare Hemington for the series on the Power of Play. She said in the March issue that it was the last article in the series and I for one have really benefitted from her advice.

I’ve always bought my cat toys and provided the usual scratching post. I also used to play games with my cats too, but it was more impromptu stuff here and there. Since reading the series, I have made an effort to have more regular play sessions with my current cat.

It’s become part of my routine to have five minutes of games each evening, usually after we’ve eaten dinner. I’ve really

noticed the difference in my cat. She recognises the cue of getting up from the table and is ready to play. We play with a fishing rod toy for five minutes and she loves chasing and pouncing. It is literally just a few minutes but you can see how much she enjoys it, and it might be my bias but I think she is happier in herself too.

During the day I am out at work so I have also tried to provide her with the right toys to keep her entertained.Again, she’s always had toys but I am making more of an effort now. I will hide treats around the house for her to find or even boxes with catnip in.

My cat is so much happier and content — I can certainly testify to the power of play!
