PURRSONALITY

-

The Tonkinese was bred to be a companion breed, and is very people-orientated.They have been described as dog-like in their devotion to their human family.

They are an intriguing mix of their foundation breeds with the intelligence and curiosity of the Siamese and the high energy and super affection of the Burmese, so you will always be entertained living with a Tonk. They are quite vocal but their voice is sweet, if persistent, and they want you to respond and engage with them, as they love human attention.

They are playful and interested in their surroundings but will become bored (and mischievous) if left alone for long periods, so it is important to ensure they have interactive toys and are able to explore and climb, so provision of a good quality cat tree with platforms and viewing points is essential.Their natural curiosity means they are best kept as house cats, or only allowed to go out in a very cat secure garden.

Tonkinese take about two years to mature, but even when fully adult they remain kittenish and playful. If they are going to be left alone during the day while the household is at work and school, do consider getting a pair of Tonkinese so that they have companionship. They are a breed that interacts well with children, other cats, and cat-friendly dogs, so make good family pets.
