Spiralling out of control

-

One of Cat’s Guidance’s more memorable rescues was one in which they were contacted by a supporter who said she knew of a woman living nearby who seemed to be hoarding cats, and several of them looked to be in a bad condition.

Their supporter managed to persuade the owner to allow Cat’s Guidance in to help her, but before they were allowed access, they found that she had already managed to sell some of these sick cats on social media, many of whom were the product of inbreeding.

“When we got in there, we found more than 14 cats in a terrible condition. They all had diarrhoea, eye infections, were infested with fleas, and weren’t neutered,” Janette said.“We had two three-week-old kittens we called Louis and Chloe we had to syringe feed. Sadly, Chloe didn’t make it as her little body just shut down, but Louis went from strength to strength and he’s been rehomed now.”

The woman had claimed that the situation in her home with having so many cats had just spiralled out of control as she couldn’t say no, and Janette and Sam want people to come to them for help before they get to that situation.

“There’s little we can do about people like that except for trying to educate them and help if we can,” Sam added.

The pair added that the reason they are able to help so many cats is due to the support they receive from their supporters and fosterers who give their rescued cats a warm cosy home to live in while they wait to be rehomed, as well as the veterinary help from their local vet surgeries.

“We were so thrilled that people nominated us as Community Cat Heroes,” Janette added.“We’ve got a great bunch of supporters and we couldn’t do this without them.”
