FINDING A CAT-FRIENDLY CLINIC

-

The article on cat-friendly vet clinics in the April issue was really interesting. I wasn’t aware of the scheme but I have searched online and found a cat-friendly clinic in my area. I am going to enquire to see if I can change to this vet practice.

What impressed me so much about the scheme is the level of thought that goes into making the experience better for cats.A trip to the vet’s has always been something to get through with my cat Tiger. He doesn’t hate it but he’s clearly not at ease. There are so many little adjustments that can be made to make it a better experience for our cats — and they really do add up. Many of them I had never thought about.

The one that hit me was allowing the cat to adjust to the consultation room. While the owner and vet chat, just leaving the carrier open so the cat can get out in their own time and adjust to the setting I think is a really good idea. I hate that bit when the vet opens the carrier; it’s the worst bit for Tiger and also, I like the idea of the vet listening to everything I want to tell them before doing an examination. As an owner,I would feel I’ve had a good chance to have a chat, while the cat has calmed down too.

Thanks for sharing about the scheme in the magazine — I hope the cat-friendly clinic near me has space for new clients! Amanda Shelvey
