Your Cat

THE JOURNEY HOME

-

It’s essential that you purchase a sturdy carrier to bring your new kitten home in, and to transport him to the vet’s at a later date. A carrier that has a lid, which opens from the top rather than the side, might seem less daunting for a kitten, and some even come with a petting window so you can soothe him while he’s in the carrier.

If possible, leave the carrier with your breeder or the rescue centre, and ask them to leave it nearby to help the kitten get used to the carrier, exploring it at his own pace.

When you go to pick him up, make sure the item you’ve left for him, with your scent on, comes home with him in the carrier, and also consider using a feline pheromone spray inside the carrier.

If possible, try to have someone with you to hold the carrier steady in the car on the way home, or secure it with the seat belt.
