Your Cat

SETTLING IN

-

How long you keep your new kitten in his own room will depend entirely on how well he adjusts to his new home. If he seems curious, excitable, and lively after the first day or two, you could consider letting him explore further afield, such as into the hallway or the next room — under close supervision of course. Before you let him into any other room, make sure it has been ‘kitten-proofed’ and is safe. If your kitten becomes tired from his new adventures, take him back into his room for a well-earned snooze and make sure he is not disturbed.

If he spends most of his early days hiding, let him settle in by keeping him in his room until he starts showing more interest, even if this takes up to a week. However, if your kitten seems lethargic, or shows no interest in playing or exploring at all, it could be a sign that he is unwell, so consult your vet if you are worried.
