The Rhode Is­land Red orig­i­nates from the United States of Amer­ica and takes its name from the state in which it was cre­ated. Orig­i­nally de­vel­oped as a breed in the late 19th cen­tury from a wide se­lec­tion of Asi­atic fowl, it even­tu­ally had its stan­dard of per­fec­tion doc­u­mented and ac­cepted by Amer­i­can Stan­dards in 1904.
