FRESH START For Hens has saved a whopping 2,100 hens from slaughter from a farm in Essex. The not-for-profit organisation works hard to re-home ex-commercial hens, with a fleet of volunteers based around the country helping birds retire to their forever homes. Fresh Start For Hens buys chickens from farmers when they are 18 months old and past their prime laying age. Chickens are then rehomed for a minimum donation of £2.50 to cover costs.
