As poul­try show­ing be­came pres­ti­gious and prof­itable, there were those seeking to bend the rules. Those with ethics would never con­sider cheat­ing, but there were many less eth­i­cal ex­hibitors who en­gaged in cor­rupt prac­tices, even to the point of de­vel­op­ing tech­niques whereby they would take the best pri­mary plumage feath­ers, such as those in the tail, and fit them to the bird with the best car­riage. They would do this from com­pe­ti­tion to com­pe­ti­tion, year after year.
