Get the best deal on smart tech for your home

We could all do with cutting back on our outgoings and thanks to the wonderful world of technology, there are plenty of easy ways to start saving…

• Sign up for a savings app. It can be hard to stay on top of your finances so download a savings app such as Money Dashboard to see all your accounts in one place, keep an eye on how much money you have and grow your savings. Use it for banking, budgeting and managing your money.

• Install a smart thermostat. Heating bills really ramp up over winter so swap to a smart system to save hundreds over the year. These nifty gadgets enable you to control your heating and hot water remotely and most versions track your energy usage. You can also fit smart radiator controls for efficient heating on a room by room basis.

• Consider some smart plugs. A great way to keep control of your energy bills is to switch to smart plugs for things like the TV, radio and lamps. You can turn them on and off remotely as and when needed and you can often set up automatic timings; ideal security for when you’re away. Voice activated assistants such as Amazon’s Alexa can also work with compatible smart plugs for even easier power-saving.

• Invest in intelligent appliances. If you buy a takeaway latte every time you’re out, consider buying a high-tech coffee machine instead. There are app-controlled models as well as wi-fi kettles that let you become your own barista. While you’re at it, smart fridges that tell you what’s inside will cut food waste – check out the Samsung Family Hub – while sensor dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers will all cut energy and water use.

• Smart leak detectors are also a wise buy. GROHE’s Sense water sensor for instance detects and stops water leaks before they cause serious, expensive damage.
