If you’re searching for more creative ways to bring colour and pattern to your walls, then you’ve come to the right place! In this month’s DIY Masterclass, we show you three ways to spruce up your walls including stencilling, stripes and scallops, and geometric patterns – the latter is the perfect way to brighten up a little one’s room.

Stencilled wall SHOPPING LIST

Faux Bone Inlay stencil, or stencil of your choice Masking tape Chalk paint in your chosen colour Annie Sloan MixMat

Large sponge roller

1 Stick your chosen stencil in place on the wall with some masking tape to ensure it doesn’t move as you’re painting.

2 Turn the chalk paint tin upside down and shake before opening the tin – if the paint’s too thick, add a little water and stir until it’s the desired consistency.

3 Pour a small amount of chalk paint onto the MixMat and slowly roll a large sponge roller back and forth to load it with an even spread of paint.

4 Apply the paint to the stencil, going over the design from left to right, then top to bottom; this will ensure even coverage. Don’t put the paint on too thickly – it’s best to apply a couple of thin coats rather than one thick one to avoid any paint bleeding through. 5 Before the paint is completely dry, remove the stencil to avoid cracking the paint. Repeat this method until you’ve achieved the desired look.

6 To take it one step further, use multiple colours within one stencil for a more colourful result or apply shading to create a slightly raised effect on the design.
