Describe a typical day

I’m an early bird, so I’m usually up around 7am. I like to start my day with an intense workout – spin or HIIT are my favourites – before I sit down at my desk with a bowl of porridge. My mornings are usually admin – catching up on emails, liaising with suppliers or dispatching orders – while my afternoons are more creative, with Zoom meetings to discuss a project or time developing new ideas, which usually includes a lot of trial and error. I try to finish work around 6pm, although it really depends on my workload.

What is your favourite interiors style?

As someone who runs a business around baskets, I do love how everybody has been embracing the rattan trend lately. But my all-time favourite interiors trend is mid-century modern. I love how the pieces are classic and elegant but also add a lot of character to any room you find them in.

What inspired you to set up shop?

I wanted to combine my love of interiors with Senegalese basket-weaving. It’s a craft I’ve always loved, one that is passed down from generation to generation between women in rural villages in Senegal, where I’m originally from. I was keen to start a project that brought more meaning into my life and the lives of others.

What can we find at La Basketry?

La Basketry is all about bringing colour to storage and injecting individuality into homes. We stock a range of beautiful baskets and home accessories that are woven with dried grasses and colourful strings such as bowls, vases, breakfast trays and placemats. Most recently, we launched a range of DIY Basket Kits as a way to encourage people to craft and connect with their hands while at home.

What are your tips for styling woven homewares?

I love a basket wall. It’s a great continuation of the gallery wall trend and it creates a focal point in any room. My number one tip is always to mix and match the baskets – the more patterns, the better! And if you get bored with the layout, the baskets can easily find their way back into your home.

What's next for you and La Basketry?

Summer is always busy and this year will be no exception, with lots of new launches. Our DIY Kits have been super popular, so I’m looking forward to developing our craft range, too. Personally, I’m excited for a break in the sun! labasketry.com
