MINI TREND: Kintsugi

-

Trends are often inspired by cultures from around the world, and kintsugi is the latest craze filling our Instagram feeds. But what you may not know is that its roots stem from a long-standing lineage of Japanese culture dating back to the 15th century. It’s a traditional practice that takes something that is broken and repairs it using powdered gold. The philosophy behind this is more wonderful than the results, as the idea is that broken things should be repaired and celebrated rather than thrown away and, in doing so, we find beauty in imperfection. Why not try kintsugi yourself? Check out page 72 for a workshop. Or, opt for these pieces as a nod to the age-old concept.
