‘All our bedroom storage problems are now solved’

Vicki Saunders transformed her bedroom with fitted wardrobes

Fully renovated homes normally have plenty of cupboards and wardrobes, but Vicki Saunders’ new house was an exception. The refurbishment, carried out by the previous owners, was to a high standard and entirely to her taste, but there was a distinct lack of storage – something Vicki was keen to resolve quickly. ‘When we moved in there were no wardrobes at all in the master bedroom, so we just used clothes rails,’ she says. ‘Our priorities were for storage to be fully integrated into the room, and needed a lot of shelving for my husband’s T-shirts and sweatshirts!’

After doing some research, she obtained quotes from two companies, and chose The Heritage Wardrobe Company, which she had come across on Instagram, to design and install custom-built furniture. ‘The other company was more expensive, lead times were longer and their door designs weren’t as nice,’ she says.

Although a good size, the bedroom presented various challenges as it had windows on two sides and a doorway to the en suite on a third. The Heritage Wardrobe Company overcame these with a run of full-height wardrobes on the walls opposite and next to the bed. They feature elegant mirrored and fretwork doors, paired with a classic Edwardian four-panel design, all in a soft grey that matches existing furniture and contrasts with the white walls.

A walk-through wardrobe conceals the entrance to the en suite, and internally the spacious wardrobes are kitted out with shelving, rails and drawers, including a roomy cupboard to fully utilise the corner space.

The entire process from the initial consultation to completion only took a couple of months, and Vicki’s delighted with the results. ‘The clever design solutions gave us the storage space we needed and also created a striking focal point in our bedroom,’ she explains.

So how did she overcome the lack of storage elsewhere in the house? ‘Heritage also built wardrobes in our son and daughters’ bedrooms to block up the opening between them and turn one large room into two,’ explains Vicki. ‘We have also added a built-in book wall/desk area in our lounge, and an IKEA wall unit in the snug for the TV and some of the children’s games.’
