Carpet stain remover, £3.59, Dr Beckmann
This cleaner saw off stains in both carpet and upholstery with great efficiency. The brush-and-sponge head is ideal for mixing the foamy formula directly onto the stain, then all you have to do is wipe away the excess with a damp cloth and the grime is gone! Just a fresh, clean scent remains. One word of warning: when the instructions say to make a ‘small hole’ in the inner seal, they do mean small. Our first attempt was very frothy!
Ecozone 3-in-1 carpet shampoo, £6.59, Ocado
With the option to use for spot stain removal, to clean large surface areas or to be used in a machine, this product is a good all-rounder, and its eco-friendly credentials make it a strong contender. The solution does need to be diluted as per instructions, which can be a bit messy and tough stains may need repeat applications, but the fresh cotton scent will leave your home smelling perfectly clean.
Carpet stain remover spray, £1.50, Wilko
Don’t be put off by the low price, this stain remover more than pulls its weight alongside its more expensive competitors. It’s easy to use; simply spray onto the stain, dab with a wet cloth and hoover when dry. It leaves a sweet, fresh smell and helps neutralise unpleasant odours – especially if your stain is new. For the low price, this stain remover is great. Stock up if you have a household with daily spillages and muddy paws or shoes!
Biological odour and spot remover starter pack, £8.99, Clean Living
For those of us who are conscious of the chemicals we use in our home but still want a great cleaning product, this natural, plant-based formula is a must! Complete with a reusable aluminium bottle, a sachet of biological odour and spot remover and a microfibre cloth, we found it worked well on instant spillages on the carpet, leaving nothing but a lovely fresh smell.
