WHO LIVES HERE? Nicola Paige, 49, manager of a family golf course, my husband, Rob, 52, a facilities manager, our son, Finley, 22, and daughter, Summer, 11.

WHAT WAS UPDATED? The dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room was taken out and the wooden floor in the dining room was sanded and varnished. All the kitchen units were replaced with second-hand cabinets and an island was created. A log burner was installed and new flooring put down in the kitchen area and the whole space was repainted.

WHY THE CHANGE? The kitchen and dining room were divided into two unsociable rooms. The kitchen units were straight out of the 1970s and although I loved the original vinyl it needed replacing.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE? About six weeks in total, including two weeks to find the pre-loved kitchen and two weeks to paint all the cabinets and put them together.
