Wren Kitchens helped us do more with our small space
With limited room to work with, Tracey and Dave thought their dream kitchen might be out of reach. Wren Kitchens showed them with a little imagination and their design expertise, that anything is possible…
When it comes to making the most of your kitchen space, it can be hard to know where to start.
From the décor style and colour scheme to the layout and key features, there are so many tips and tricks to making your space the best it can be. Wren knows that whatever shape or size, the kitchen is the heart of the home. Its expert team will work closely with you to ensure your kitchen meets its full potential, creating a beautiful, functional space that suits you and your family’s lifestyle. As part of the #wrenovation series, which shines a spotlight on real customer kitchen renovations, Tracey and her partner, Dave, share how Wren helped them to find their dream kitchen that suited the small space without them having to compromise on style or substance.
THE JOURNEY BEGINS
When Tracey and Dave bought their Swindon home last year, it was clear the house was in need of some love and attention. ‘The house was a bit unloved,’ says Tracey. As the mostused room for the couple and their two teenage children, the kitchen was at the top of the renovation to-do list.
Eager to begin work as soon as possible, the couple decided to start designing their new kitchen before they moved in. Taking the estate agent’s measurements to their local Wren showroom, they were immediately impressed by the expertise of the kitchen specialists.
Their Wren designer, Simon, suggested small-space solutions and clever design ideas, including a secret carousel corner unit and integrated appliances, ensuring the couple took advantage of all the space available.
DESIGN DETAILS
Having always dreamed of living in a country cottage, Tracey and Dave wanted to reflect the rustic style in their kitchen. Their must-haves included a ceramic sink, wooden worktops and open shelving so they could have everyday essentials within easy reach and favourite items out on show. Due to the small size of their space, they had almost ruled out having a range cooker, which was top of the wish list, but Simon helped them incorporate the statement feature and designed the kitchen around it. Not only does the Smeg cooker look like it was made for the space, Tracey has picked out a matching extractor to make it a real statement feature.
HELP ALONG THE WAY
One thing the couple couldn’t make up their mind on was what colour to choose from Wren’s wide range of options. It was helpful that they could take samples home, so they could see the colours in the actual space and natural lighting. The couple decided on a calming Cashmere Matt and a warming White for their Infinity Shaker cabinets, giving that welcoming feel they were looking for. When it came to installing the kitchen, the couple chose a Wren-approved service and were delighted with how smooth the whole process was. ‘Danny, the fitter, sorted everything out and we didn’t have any hassle,’ says Tracey. The fact that Wren installers also arranged the pick-up for the old kitchen, as well as all of the rubbish, was an added bonus and helped keep things as fuss-free as possible.
FINISHED RESULTS
Complete with a patterned floor, twinkling fairy lights, a large mirror and a luscious collection of houseplants, Tracey and Dave’s bespoke kitchen is now filled with character and charm, with the transformation of the room making a big difference to the family’s day-to-day lives.
‘The new layout works perfectly for the whole family now,’ says Tracey. As the main cook in the family, Dave is really pleased with the range cooker, while Tracey loves how the hidden appliances have created a streamlined look. ‘Everything looks really neat,’ she says. ‘It’s just a lovely room to walk into.’
