WHO LIVES HERE? My name is Sheila Patel, 52, and I’m the codirector of an IT company with my husband, Sandeep. We live with our two sons, Milan, age 25, and Saaras, 22, and our daughter Ambar, 16, in a five-bedroom house in Loughton, Essex.

WHAT WAS UPDATED? We removed the chimney breast, reorganised the layout and pushed out the window to create a seat.

WHY THE CHANGE? We didn’t have enough storage or worktop space because we were so restricted by the chimney breast.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE? It took several weeks, with two of those spent doing the window, but in that time we were able to change the floor and add extra units.
