Elevate the impact of floral arrangements by making a chandelier from reused glass bottles and crafting wire

-

What better way to enjoy the sunny weather than to relax under a canopy of blooms? In under an hour, you can make a unique floral chandelier to display wherever you need a focal point or to complement existing décor. Cheer up indoor spaces such as the living room or kitchen, or add instant wow-factor by putting it on show near a swing chair or garden patio. 1 Cut four lengths

of wire, approximately 40cm each. If you are using a square ring, attach the wire lengths to the corners by wrapping 3cm of each wire around the ring. Make sure it’s tight and secure. If you are using a circular ring, attach the wires to the frame and space out evenly for balance.

2 Create the top section of the chandelier by bringing all four wires together at the top and twisting them so that they are all firmly wrapped around each other. Twist the wire into a hoop, inserting the keyring so that the chandelier can hang safely from it.

3 Cut four lengths of wire, approximately 50cm each – enough to wrap around the ring and the bottles. Wrap 3cm of each wire length around the ring, at the same points where the other wires are secured.

4 This next part is easiest to do when the chandelier is hanging, so find a spot to hang it where you can comfortably reach to attach the glass bottles. Wrap the end of the wire that's hanging down around the bottle neck about two or three times.

5 Fasten the wire

around the bottle by twisting the wire around itself a few times, making sure the bottle will not fall off. It doesn’t matter if the bottles aren’t hanging at the exact same height as long as they are balanced; it also gives the chandelier a more natural, relaxed look.

6 Cut the flowers, making sure the stems are long enough to touch the bottom of the bottles. Fill the bottles with a bit of water then place two or three flowers in each bottle. Do not overfill the bottles with water as this will add too much weight to the structure. You will only need about 4cm of water in each bottle. To create an everlasting floral arrangement, use faux flowers.

7 Attach another bottle in the centre of the structure from the keyring to create a middle arrangement. The bottle doesn’t need to be the same size as the others – we used a smaller one. This step is optional, but it does add an extra dimension to the chandelier, so we recommend trying it. Cut a 45cm length of wire and wrap one end around the keyring, then attach the bottle to the other end using the same technique as before. This bottle will hang slightly higher than the rest, adding extra interest to the chandelier.
