Ever wondered what happens to the rescued horses and ponies you read about in the news? Wonder no more…

BACK IN 2012, World Horse Welfare (WHW) was contacted by a RSPCA field officer to help with a young Thoroughbred colt, who’d been reported for lameness. He was about six months old and was being kept in a back garden in Avon. In need of urgent attention by a farrier for a painful hoof abscess, Reggie was taken to WHW’s Glenda Spooner Farm. He was underweight as his diet had been lacking the nutrition needed for a growing colt. Once in the care of the Glenda Spooner team, he flourished and his personality started to shine. Soon he was ready to fifind a new home and continue his education. Step forward Sarah Greening – she’d already rehomed one WHW horse and enjoyed the experience so much that by 2013 she knew she wanted to rehome another. That’s when handsome Reggie caught Sarah’s eye. “Reggie’s happy, inquisitive and brave – an all-round lovely chap,” says Sarah. Since then, Reggie has come on in leaps and bounds with his handling and training, and has even proved eye-catching in the show ring. “This summer he started his showing career, taking second in the ‘Best Grass Kept Class’ then winning first place at his next show in the ‘Handsome Gelding’ category,” says Sarah. Reggie’s also proved he’s a dab hand at agility, having just completed his first day’s training. “He’s enjoying horse agility and even mastered walking across a scary, silver tarpaulin. I‘m so proud of him.” To find out more about rehoming a World Horse Welfare horse or pony visit www.rehoming.worldhorsewelfare.org
