RESCUE UPDATE

Ever wondered what happens to the rescued horses and ponies you read about in the news? Wonder no more…

IN FEBRUARY 2006, Topsy and her foal arrived into World Horse Welfare’s (WHW) care when her elderly owner could no longer look after them. After nine months of care, the 14hh Welsh Section D was rehomed with Sharon to enjoy a life of hacking and wonderful care. “We visited WHW’s Penny Farm to look around and that’s when I saw Topsy for the first time. All I could think about from then on was having her,” says Sharon. However, once Topsy arrived in her new home, it wasn’t quite plain sailing. “In the following weeks she became quite tricky to manage and I was beginning to wonder what I had taken on,” says Sharon. “But I came across Parelli Natural Horesmanship and it really changed both our lives, with Topsy becoming not just my horse, but my partner.” Last year, inspired to give another pony a good home, Sharon and her husband turned to WHW again where they spotted Arabella, a 13hh pony. Back in 2012, Arabella was three years old and seriously underweight. She had been taken in by the charity when found with a group of abandoned horses. “We instantly fell in love with her, as she looked such a lost soul – her eyes said it all. Arabella is very extroverted and is always on the go, looking for new things to learn. Her confidence has grown such a lot in the few months she’s been with us,” says Sharon. “My plan is to make life as good as I can for both my girls – going to the beach, teaching them higher levels of ridden Parelli and at liberty. They’re the best thing ever.” Find out more about rehoming a horse
