USE YOUR GEARS

Your Horse (UK) - - Better Riding -

Sophie likes to teach her clients and their horses how to achieve rhythm by focusing on changing gears. Within these gears you should be counting the strides out loud, so you feel when you need to step it up a gear and make a transition. Sophie’s gears are as follows: GEAR 1: Jog GEAR 2: Collected trot GEAR 3: Working trot GEAR 4: Lengthened strides

It takes lots of practice before your horse can progress through the gears easily, but the key is patience. You’ll find more gears in time, and be able to skip some within transitions, as his ability improves.
