SOMETIMES IT’S surprising the scenarios we at Your Horse find ourselves in when visiting riders. Talking on the yard or around the kitchen table is the norm. Every now and then we might be in the back of a horsebox or actually on a horse, but this month, acting online ed Julie’s note-taking while on a moving carriage was a first. Horse people have to be time savvy (hence our regular work/horse diary on p20), and stuntman Ben Atkinson — this month’s interviewee (p16) — is no different. Luckily, Julie has a steady hand. Regular readers of Your Horse will notice a new, fresher look in this issue, while still bringing you the great content you’ve come to love. We’re very excited to unveil the final result — I hope you like it as much as we do. Our #hack1000miles pages appear earlier (because we’re super proud of the campaign) and, this time, we’re sharing photos and stories from the SEIB Burghley Sponsored Ride. This was an exciting opportunity for some of our challengers to hack around the famous CCI4* cross-country course (p10). I was there on foot and have vowed that next year, I’ll be there too. Then I can say I’ve ridden around Burghley! It’s achievable, as I recently became the new owner of Bilbo (pictured below right). I’m enjoying being back in the saddle more — and very glad my hunt is over. Bilbo is the end result of a lot of searching on horsedeals.co.uk, telephone calls, driving around the country, test rides, disappointment and decision making. Anyone else who is horse hunting, has recently purchased one or is considering their options will find solicitor Rebecca Stojak’s legal advice handy (p96). It pays to be well informed. We’re celebrating our impending show, Your Horse Live (9-11 November), with an exclusive preview (p85). We’ve lined up the very best riders, trainers and experts, so it’s a must for your diary. Plus we’ve got tickets to win (including lunch with the one and only Geoff Billington) up for grabs on p59. Enjoy!
