“We’re at the end of the session and I’d like to see the handbrake come off and DB2 allowed to just canter around the arena for a couple of circuits,” says Katie. “The canter has improved so much, so let’s just let him bowl on.” Once he’s cantered, DB2 can walk, stretch and have a little fuss. “Stretching doesn’t come naturally to this horse, so it’s important to let him to do this at the end of every session. It helps with suppleness and he leaves the arena with a relaxed mindset.”
