Huge overhaul of welfare legislation
The RSPCA has welcomed the introduction of new regulations in England to improve welfare in the breeding and selling industry, crack down on illegal puppy farming, and protect animals used in the business world, making it the biggest overhaul of welfare legislation in more than a generation. The introduction of the Animal Welfare England Regulations 2018 (licensing of activities involving animals) will ensure better standards in riding centres, boarding and animal exhibits. A licence will be required to: Hire out horses Sell pets commercially Provide boarding for cats and dogs Breed dogs Keep or train animals for exhibition It’s hoped the new standards will ensure better animal welfare and force a muchneeded crackdown on puppy farming.
