TWO WEEKS’ ISOLATION

-

When Your Horse editor Aimi Clark moved her horse, Bilbo, to a new yard, he spent two weeks in isolation. “During that time, he could hear and see other horses on the yard so he was never unhappy, but he was too far away to be touched by another,” says Aimi. “His isolation paddock was on the other side of the farm to all the others and the isolation stable had its own storage area and mucking out utensils. Whenever the yard staff handled him, they washed their hands thoroughly afterwards. When he went on the walker, any bits he had touched were wiped down too. “It was particularly important to do this as he was a new horse to me and so I couldn’t 100% vouch for his health. After 14 days Bilbo had shown no signs of a cough, runny nose or ill health and he was happily integrated with the rest of the yard.”
