MAINTENANCE
This applies to a horse or pony in no work, such as a retired horse, a companion, or a horse on box rest after injury or illness.
Feeding strategy
A horse who isn’t working can often maintain condition on forage alone, especially in summer when grazing is plentiful. If this is the case, a balancer should be fed alongside hay, haylage or grazing to ensure the diet remains balanced in terms of vitamin, mineral and amino acid supply.
