Sweet itch products

IF YOUR HORSE suffers from sweet itch it can make the warmer months a misery for him as he constantly wants to scratch. Sweet itch is caused by an allergic reaction to the bites of the Culicoides midge. Most cases are seen from March to October and it can affect all breeds and types of horse and pony. Unfortunately, there’s no cure, but there are things you can do to make your horse more comfortable.

The three most common ways to minimise your horse’s reaction to midge bites are to use a specially designed protective rug, apply a soothing lotion, and feed a supplement to support your horse’s immune system and skin. In this buyer’s guide we’ve picked a selection of products from each of the three categories to assist you in choosing ones that will help to make the months ahead more bearable for your horse.
