Blyth bows out
Popular New Zealand event rider Blyth Tait is to retire from the sport. He announced his plans at the NZ Horse of the Year Show in early March. Although he will no longer be eventing, Blyth says he’s still keen to compete in showjumping for fun. Blyth had already bowed out from the UK circuit. His career highlights include individual Olympic gold on Ready Teddy at Atlanta in 1996, team and individual gold at the 1998 World Championships, two Olympic bronzes, and Burghley titles on Chesterfield in 1998 and Ready Teddy in 2001.
“I’m happy to hand over the reins to the younger ones coming through and I support them fully. There’s a bright future and still some serious young talent out there,” said Blyth.
