Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Counsellors listen and can help you see how you can begin to rebuild your life. Your GP can advise you about counselling
Take one day at a time and try not to think about the future
If you have a bad day, just accept it. The slightest thing can bring back memories at the most unexpected of times. You can still feel lonely in a crowded room. Don’t be ashamed of how you feel
Don’t bottle up grief. Crying can be good for you
Don’t listen to other people who say you should be over your loss. There is no timescale for grief and everyone is different
Anxiety is physically exhausting. Try meditation, yoga, or listening to relaxing music
If you can’t sleep, soak your feet in a bowl of water with a few drops of lavender oil and imagine your stress is soaking away
Consider getting a pet – something which will need you to take care of it
Take up a new hobby, such as knitting, crochet or card-making
Try to join a friendship group – or start your own by asking friends round for coffee Pottering in the garden is a great stress reliever
Make yourself go out every day – even if just to the local shop
Try to find someone outside the family who will listen to you
Book a massage or try using aromatherapy oils at home
