DIY home spa

Make your own spa treatments then dim the lights, put on some soft music and relax…

- By Beauty Editor Michelle Nightingale

one of the best things about a spa day is the chance to have your hardworking hands and feet pampered.

1 Wet hands and apply a hand scrub (see recipe below). Gently massage it into the skin and then rinse. 2 Soak a cotton pad in nail polish remover and wipe nails thoroughly. 3 File away any rough edges – a straight-edged nail shape is flattering and practical. 4 Apply a base coat and then two top coats of your favourite shade. Finish with a fast-dry top coat to help your manicure last. 5 Once your nails are dry, add a small drop of your face oil to the backs of your hands and massage in.

EASY STEPS FOR A SALON-STYLE FACIAL

Do this quick-and-easy facial in the tub as the steam will help aid exfoliation and boost hydration. DOUBLE CLEANSE. Your skin needs to be clean and make-up free to get the benefits from any facial. Take time to massage your cleanser in, before removing and repeating. EXFOLIATE. Never scrub, but instead gently work your exfoliator into the skin before rinsing. Avoid the delicate eye area and pay special attention to dry or problem areas. SOAK. Wring out a flannel soaked in warm water and press over your face for a few minutes. Repeat this and then pat your skin dry. NOURISH. Apply a nourishing face mask (see recipe right), lie back and relax. After 15 mins, remove and pat your skin dry. REPLENISH. Finish with a hydrating facial oil or your usual face cream, but take time to massage the product in. Use your fingertips and massage in small circles working from the centre of your face outwards.
