MacuShield® is a lutein (10mg), zeaxanthin (2mg) and mesozeaxanthin (10mg) once-a-day, easy to take, food supplement which combines all three macular carotenoids in a unique formula developed in collaboration with leading eye health experts. Scientific research shows that these three nutrients are found at the back of the eye, at the macula, where they form the macular pigment (yellow colour). Meso-zeaxanthin is particularly concentrated at the centre of this pigment. The macula is a specialist part of the eye that is responsible for our detailed, central vision. Lutein and zeaxanthin can be found in fruits and dark green leafy vegetables and meso-zeaxanthin is present in some species of fish and seafood. The macular pigments in MacuShield are obtained from marigolds (Tagetus Erecta), specifically grown for this purpose.

Our history

MacuShield was first manufactured in 2006 following the results of some interesting research into the role of three nutrients, meso-zeaxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin. It was on this fact that the brand proudly states our slogan “Trust The Science”. That ethos of research still continues today and we continue to invest in both the safety and stability trials on the product to ensure the underlying safety of the product and also in new areas of potential for these nutrients. There are 4 research centres worldwide which are dedicated to understanding these nutrients and identifying where they can be used. There are now over 330 studies in this area.
