The results of our Grans’ survey revealed

Forget the stereotype of the knitting nana! We asked you what it’s like be a modern gran and you told us your own grandparents’ lots has changed since your own grandparents’ time

What’s it really like to be a grandparent in 2018? That’s what we wanted to know when we asked you to fill in our grans’ survey back in February. More than 2,700 responses later and we’ve learned a lot about what a diverse, exciting group of grans you are, from what you most like to do with the grandchildren, to the time and pocket money you give them and the words you’d use to describe yourself as a grandparent.

We’ve also discovered that your experience is a world away from that of your own grans. You told us how changing perceptions, technology and travel has meant you’re much more involved and fun than the grandparents of two generations ago, despite being older than they were when they became grans. This all goes to show that the myth of grans all being the little old knitting nanas from the Shreddies adverts is now well and truly out of date – we need to recognise what a varied, vibrant group of people you truly are. Thank you so much to everyone who took time to fill in our survey. We think it makes for fascinating reading…
