Yours Retro postbag – your letters

Yours Retro is all about sharing memories and looking back with a smile. We want to make future issues the best they can be, so we’d love to hear from you. Do let us know what you like and what you don’t, ask questions, remind us of anything we've missed, or share your ideas for features in future issues. At last there’s a magazine for my generation! Full of nostalgia and pictures of stars we used to see at the cinema. As I turn the pages I can put a name to all of them. One criticism though; where’s Errol Flynn? To me he’s the most handsome of all men. I’ve loved him since I was 15 and still have a scrapbook I made then. Please, even just a picture… (the front cover would be nice!). M Gaugan, Sandgate Kent What a treat! The article in Yours Retro about The Mousetrap reminded me of the time my aunt and godmother took me to see it as a teenager. At the time, Sir Richard Attenborough and his wife Sheila Sim were performing and the play gave me a lifetime love of theatre. Sylvia Adamson, Ceredigion I’ve had a subscription to Yours Retro for a while now and always find it absorbing, but issue 12 is the best yet for interesting and varied content – particularly the wonderful British character actors mentioned. How about a feature on the many American characters in Sixties’ TV series such as Michael Strong, John Vernon and Albert Paulsen? Or my favourite actresses Suzanne Pleshette (left) and Stella Stevens (right). David Jones, Taunton ■ I would love you to feature Shirley temple in Yours Retro. I’ve read her autobiography and think it would be lovely to share with readers the life of such a talented actress.

M Barclay, Shropshire Sharon says: Good news! We have Shirley planned into issue 14 ■ Can you help me? I have always wanted to know what happened to Buddy Holly’s young wife after he died so tragically.

E N Larmour, Carrickfergus Sharon says: María Elena Santiago married Buddy Holly just two months after their first date. She was six months pregnant, but sadly miscarried after the shock of hearing of Buddy’s death. She eventually remarried and had three children. A grandmother living in Texas, Maria owns the rights to Buddy’s name and continues to promote his legacy.
