Post-war party

-

Travel back in time to the Forties on September 15 and 16 at The Historic Dockyard Chatham with Salute to the

’40s. The annual retro festival is back bigger and better than ever and The Dockyard will have vintage music filling the air from The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK, The Polka Dots Dolls, The D-Day Darlings (as seen on Britain’s Got Talent 2018) and many more! Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to lindy hop, swing and jive.

If you don’t have the perfect Forties attire for the weekend, there’ll be plenty of shopping opportunities to choose from in the retro fashion fair. For those that really want the Forties experience, you can also get your hair styled in the salon!

There’s plenty of fun photo opportunities throughout the event and you won’t want to miss the Forties street for the perfect pics! Named after Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust’s directors, you can pick up a pint at The Holdsworth Arms, discover the sweet shop at Knotts Confectionery or even visit a replica grocery shop at Ferris & Sons. Hear the air raid siren and let The Dockyard’s very own air raid wardens take you to one of their original shelters onsite and listen to the stories of the Forties – an experience like no other!

Plus, filling the streets of The Dockyard will be vintage vehicles on display and you’ll get a chance to wave them past in the vehicle parade on both days – look out for the tanks!

Forget the ration book, if you’re hungry there’ll be vintage tea rooms, homemade pies to a delicious raclette, and a variety of food to choose from; nothing is off limits. And, when you need to quench your thirst, don’t miss out on the vintage cocktails and bars around the site, which also make perfect photo opportunities.
