DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN FUNCHAL – Arrive at airport for your flight to Funchal. Transfer to four-star hotel Enotel Quinta do Sol for seven nights. FUNCHAL DAY 2 – Discover the historic centre of Funchal on a guided walking tour and a taste of Madeira wine.

Visit to Palheiro Gardens, world famous for its variety of flora and beautiful setting.

DAY 3 CURRAL DAS FREIRAS & CÂMARA DE LOBOS

– Short drive north to the Curral das Freiras or Valley of the

Nuns. After lunch, head to Câmara de Lobos, a fishing village built around a bay with Europe’s highest cliffs forming a breathtaki­ng backdrop.

Winston Churchill stayed here to paint the harbour during his visit to Madeira in 1950. MONTE – DAY 4 Visit hilltop town of Monte.

Free to wander at leisure or join a guided visit to the Monte Palace

Tropical Garden. Return by coach, or take the cable car for a dramatic descent to the capital. EASTERN MADEIRA DAY 5 – Explore the eastern seaboard ; call at sleepy Porto da Cruz and the UNESCO-listed Ribeiro

Frio National Park.

FREE DAY DAY 6 – The whole day is at your leisure. WESTERN MADEIRA

DAY 7 – Visit the charming town of Ribeira Brava, a small town carved out by the ‘wild river’ that gives the settlement its name. There’s ample time to explore its picturesqu­e streets and visit the 16th-Century church of São Bento.

Return on the northern coastal route via the village of Seixal to see one of Madeira’s most famous waterfalls – the Bridal Veil – cascading down the side of the mountain into the sea. Our final stop is São Vicente, a village nestling in a deep verdant valley. RETURN FLIGHT –

DAY 8 Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
