WHAT’S ALL THE FUSS ABOUT?

What has caught our attention in the news this fortnight…

Hi-tech litter bins

The Royal Borough of Greenwich, in south-east London, is trialling 18 street bins that crush litter to create more space.

The solar-powered bins, being deployed in pairs, one for recycling and one for general waste, can create a capacity of up to ten times that of a traditional street bin.

They also include a sensor for measuring litter levels to alert the council when they are 80 per cent full.

Planet Bake Off

It’s not just the British who are gripped by the dramas of The Great British Bake Off. With the latest series under way, the show has celebrated its 30th international sale. Chile is the latest country to buy the format and will call its show Bake Off Chile, El Gran Pastelero.
