My six-year-old grandson was having an eye test. While reading the letter chart the optician asked him if he liked letters. He replied that he preferred cabbage to lettuce. Perhaps a hearing text next...?

I love this picture, right, of my greatgrandson Lachlan Webb taken when he went to visit his two uncles, serving members at the RNLI Mudeford station in Christchurch, Dorset. He was on holiday here from Australia. Jean Cannon, Dorset My ten-year-old granddaughter Ellie was experimenting with colourings on icing to go on buns we’d made. She added a drop of black to her white icing and remarked, “Nannie, it has come out grey, just the same colour as your hair!” Never had it called ‘icing colour’ before! Julie Stone, Ipswich
