The Com­pe­ti­tion and Mar­kets Au­thor­ity has writ­ten to all care home providers telling them to make sure they’re clear about things such costs and charges and to make sure they treat res­i­dents fairly both be­fore and after they’ve moved in. If you have a rel­a­tive who’s in a care home and you don’t think they’re be­ing treated fairly, they have the same rights whether they fund their own care or the state pays. If the care home won’t deal with your com­plaint, you should con­tact your lo­cal Cit­i­zens Ad­vice. It’s also worth get­ting in touch with the Care Qual­lity Com­mis­sion (or its equiv­a­lent in Scot­land and North­ern Ire­land) as they are re­spon­si­ble for mon­i­tor­ing stan­dards of care.
