BOTANICAL BOXES

-

These pretty floral storage boxes are ideal for keeping jewellery, make-up and other odds and ends in one place

40 mins Beginner

Materials: Plain cardboard boxes with lids Decorative paper Sharp scissors Acrylic paint and small paintbrush PVA (white) glue, diluted 50:50 with water

Glue brush Spray varnish Kitchen paper Plastic sheet or newspaper

1

Give the boxes a couple of coats of acrylic paint – make sure you leave plenty of drying time between coats and try not to let the paint layers get too thick, especially if the lids are a tight fit.

3

Use a flatended and fairly stiff glue brush to ‘stab’ the glue onto the wrong side of the cutout images. This prevents the paper from stretching as it gets wet and will give a smoother

finish. 2

Select suitable images – botanical illustrations work well. Make sure the images fit comfortably on the box lids and cut out carefully with small, sharp

scissors. 4

Carefully position the images and smooth down to remove any wrinkles with your fingers. If there’s any excess glue, wipe off with a piece of slightly damp kitchen paper.

5

When dry, place boxes on newspaper or a plastic sheet and seal with spray varnish.
