Materials

Unused paint can or tin with lid Old atlases or maps Double-sided tape

Clear varnish (optional) Paint brush (optional) Ribbon (optional) Drill (optional)

1. Measure the height between top and bottom rims and circumfere­nce of your can, adding 1cm (½in) to the circumfere­nce for overlap.

2. Cut out a rectangle from your atlas to this size. Stick double-sided tape to each short edge and at least two more strips in between them.

3. Peel the backing from the first strip and stick that edge of the atlas along the can’s vertical seam, making sure it is straight.

4. Wrap the atlas around the can, removing the tape backing as you go. Varnish the paper if you wish, leaving it to dry.

5. Before putting the lid on, place a looped ribbon with knotted ends under it to make it easier to get the lid off.

6. To make a moneybox with a slot in the lid, drill several holes next to each other until the slot is large enough for coins to fit through.

7. Bend any rough edges and file them smooth to make it safe for little fingers.
