Set a stylish table with these colourful knitted mats
PATTERN
Cast on 20 sts in A or B with the yarn held doubled. Row 1: knit.
Row 2 (RS): k2, yo, k17, turn leaving one st rem on LH needle. Row 3: s1, k to end. 21sts Row 4: k2, yo, k17, turn leaving 2sts rem on LH needle. Row 5: s1, k to end. 22sts Row 6: k2, yo, k17, turn leaving 3sts rem on LH needle. Row 7: s1, k to end. 23sts Row 8: k2, yo, k17, turn leaving 4sts rem on LH needle. Row 9: s1, k to end. 24sts
Row 10: cast off 4 sts, k1, yo, k13, turn leaving 5sts rem on LH needle. Row 11: s1, k to end. 21sts Row 12: k2, yo, k13, turn leaving 6sts rem on LH needle. Row 13: s1, k to end. 22sts Row 14: k2, yo, k13, turn leaving 7sts rem on LH needle. Row 15: s1, k to end. 23sts Row 16: k2, yo, k13, turn leaving 8sts rem on LH needle. Row 17: s1, k to end. 24sts Row 18: cast off 4 sts, k to end. 20sts
Rep rows 1-18 seven times more.
Then rep rows 1-17 once more.
Cast off.
MAKE UP
Join the cast-on and cast off edges of the placemat using flat stitch (hold right sides of the fabric together and work a running stitch along the edge stitches.)
Soak thoroughly in lukewarm water, squeeze out excess, shape and dry flat.

To hold the yarn double you can either rewind it into two separate balls or you can find the centre of the ball and work from the centre and the outside of the ball at the same time.
