Celebrating heroes
Recently we asked you to tell us about friends, family or someone you know working on the frontline during the Covid-19 crisis so we could honour them in the magazine. We continue to get lovely emails and letters. Below are some of the latest.
✒ My son-in-law, a busy GP, contracted Covid-19 in March. He was very ill and self-isolated at home. He returned to work a fortnight later even though there was no PPE available at that time. He is our hero.
Rhoda Pippen, Cardiff
✒Both my sons are working hard to keep the nation going. One is working all night, every night in a supermarket distribution centre to make sure the lorries delivering to the supermarkets are loaded. The other is working equally hard making sure the food suppliers get the boxes they need to put the food in. There are so many workers going about their daily jobs who get forgotten. It’s good to honour them. Name and address supplied
✒ My hero is my son-in-law, Jamie Clark, from Rye. In the week he is a consulting practitioner at our local medical centre and at weekends a paramedic on the ambulances. He has been working without let-up during this time and is always totally dedicated and kind. Jan Dive, by email
✒ My sister-in-law, Deborah Derbyshire works as a carer in a local authority care home for the elderly. She truly does her best for all the residents and is cheerful and hard-working. She’s much loved by all the family. I’m glad careworkers in homes are now receiving more recognition for the work they do. Janet Dandy, Lancs
✒ My daughter Alicia, a retired Matron, has gone back to hospital to help with bed management and is doing 13-hour shifts. My granddaughter Charlotte, a nurse, is working on the Covid-19 high dependency ward doing 12-hour shifts and her sister, Stacey, is a carer for adults with learning difficulties and has been doing extra duties. I am so proud of all three of them and son-in-law Steve, who brings round very nice meals he has made and also does my shopping for me!
