Relax with Sherrie time

As spring gives way to summer, Sherrie muses on the sunnier, longer days... and a hilarious surprise!

Hello readers,

May is the most beautiful time of the year, and not just in the UK. I remember going to Cyprus with my mum in May. She used to say, “Wait until the plane door opens and May will be right there at the top of the stairs.” I now know of course she meant the smell of jasmine blossom that scents the air all day long from its fronds of white flowers; very heady, very romantic.

Here we have our own message of spring awakening. The extraordinary trees bursting into vibrant green from brown sleeping branches. The bushes lush and overflowing with intertwining leaves and excitable new plants trying to break through. The rebirth and joy of the short-lived daffodil, followed swiftly by the proud and multi-coloured tulip. Cherry blossom is always such a joy but its lifespan is so short. Spring means different things to different people; a new beginning, time to change, a wake-up call. Hibernation hasn’t just ended for the bats, black bears and squirrels but for us too. We have to shake off our big jumpers, bed socks and woolly mittens and get out there, feel the sun, watch the waddling ducks, the cygnets under their mum’s wing, the thousands of nests still being built, and look forward to a time of sun,

light nights and summer holidays!

A friend of mine went for a camping weekend, just her and her boyfriend. They needed time away and thought it would be fun. They arrived late at night so couldn’t be bothered to start messing with the tent and the car was lovely and warm. When morning dawned, the sun was shining and all was right with world. As they stretched, ready to start the day, they realised there were quite a lot of people gathered near their car. The sun had literally risen in front of them, and it didn’t take long before they realised that 20 or more people were sitting naked, welcoming the sun, and their little car had parked on the actual worshipping spot in the middle of the night. They slid under their coats until it was over and quickly drove home!

Their spring had well and truly sprung!
