Destroyer, Epyx

-

Time f for something a bit more dramatic now. Epyx forged its name with sports games, but the company wasn’t afraid to dabble in alternate types of simulation. This nautical effort, set on one of the utility vessels of the US Navy during World War II, is an over-complex and demanding jaunt through the various operations of a destroyer. From its anti-aircraft deck cannons to torpedoes and depth charges, this small ship certainly lives up to its name, and its offensive capabilities are displayed on the cover, the rear-mounted gun letting loose against an enemy fighter plane. The detail on the destroyer is excellent, from its many guns and torpedo tubes, to its lifeboats and a pair of crew members, pensively hanging on to the side rail as the battle rages above them. In the distance a ship burns fiercely, the dark clouds forming an excellent backdrop for the metallic letters of the game’s title. This is one helluva battle.
