Pixelglass Games — 2018

Following 2017’s release of Time Gal, Pixelglass took their expertise (and wonderfully fast media player technology) and brought it towards converting another Laserdisc title for the AMIGA. The game chosen was Road Avenger, a hit in the arcades during its time and on release to home machines back in the 90s, but will it stand up to ZZAP! scrutiny now the AMIGA version has arrived?

Road Avenger is simply a high-octane interactive movie, originally developed by Data East with Toei Animation to bring an epic tale of vigilante justice to life. You are tasked with driving full speed in your muscle car to bring the minions of S.C.U.M (Secret Criminal Underground Movement) to justice over the killing of your wife. Set over nine stages, your pursuit travels over highways, beaches, and crowded streets, all polished with an anime flair that only the 80s could carry off!

Controls are kept as simple as possible, requiring only a simple movement of the directional keys/joystick and a press of the [Enter] key/fire button as and when depicted on screen. Be wary though, as these interactions are splitsecond decisions that can direct the game from continuation of the story to a fiery death in a matter of moments. Add to this the awesome rock soundtrack, polished FMV, and multiple endings to uncover during the game and you have an amazing rocking adventure that reminds you why we spent so much time in the arcades!
