The fallen in World War I com­mem­o­rated in Kyiv

Civil­ian and mil­i­tary en­voys of Canada, Great Bri­tain, as well all other NATO na­tions and Ukraine, gath­ered in the Park of Eter­nal Glory in Kyiv on Nov. 11 to com­mem­o­rate those killed in World War I from 1914-1918. At 11 o'clock in the morn­ing, ex­actly 100 hun­dred years after the guns fell silent on the Western Front, the cer­e­mony held a minute of si­lence to mourn be­fore wreaths and tra­di­tional pa­per pop­pies were placed near Kyiv's Grave of the Un­known Soldier. Out of up to 19 mil­lion com­bat­ants and civil­ians killed in the Great War, an es­ti­mated 1.5 mil­lion of them were Ukraini­ans. (Kostyan­tyn Ch­er­nichkin)
