The U.S. and Germany reached a deal on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which would deprive Ukraine of at least $1.5 billion in transit fees per year if completed by transferri­ng gas directly from Russia to Germany, bypassing Ukraine. Germany committed to giving Ukraine at least $175 million to support the green energy sector, while the U.S. promised to pass new sanctions if Russia “misused” the pipeline to achieve “aggressive political ends.”
