Lauren’s baby shower

Being that chef Ninamarie Bojekian-Mendoza is the owner of a catering and event planning company, her days are always revolving around food and parties. So what does a chef pick as her theme at her own baby shower? Food, of course!

She started off with a “Cravings” menu as the baseline for the theme and feel of the event.

“I wanted the food to be exciting and fun,” Bojekian-Mendoza says. “I wanted our guests to indulge in all pregnant food cravings with us. From street food to salads, I wanted the flavors to pop.”

Two different food trucks served guests. Pizza Vita served napoleon-style individual pies that came straight out of their mobile pizza oven in less than 90 seconds. Each pizza had a variety of toppings. The CoolHaus ice cream truck served up made-to-order ice cream sandwiches. Guests were able to choose from five different cookie flavors and five different ice cream favors, hand-dipped ice cream bars, and glass-bottled coldbrewed Stumptown Coffee.

The other items on the menu came from the Ooh La La kitchen and included plantain-crusted Mahi Mahi tacos, four fresh and colorful salads, and freshpressed authentic Cuban sandwiches and Spanakopita.

“The baby will be Cuban, Greek and Armenian, so I had to throw the sandwiches and spinach pies in the mix,” says Bojekian-Mendoza.

The desserts didn’t stop at the ice cream truck. They also included funfetti “sprinkles-all-over” cake, chocolate caramel bacon tarts and vanilla custard fresh fruit tarts – all from Sweet, Love & Cake.

“We even had the infamous pickles in the mix,” Bojekian-Mendoza says. “Every guest took home a jar of the amazing Mrs. Pickles Gourmet pickles in either spicy ‘Hot Mama’ or ‘Original.’”

One element that Bojekian-Mendoza wanted from the start was a bar “that gave just a juice bar vibe,” she says. “We served three specialty cocktails all made with fresh-squeezed juices. You’ll be surprised how amazing a piña colada on-the-rocks is when it’s made up of fresh juice, freshly toasted coconut and aged dark rum.”

“The shower came out exactly as my mother, mother-in-law and I envisioned,” Bojekian-Mendoza says. “We really wanted a beautiful summer afternoon for all the special women in our lives to sit back and enjoy the gorgeous colors around them… and indulge in specialty foods with fresh drinks, next to an 8-foot rubber duck… and that’s exactly what we got! It was an overwhelming feeling for me personally, and I am so grateful to have had such a perfect day with loved ones while awaiting the arrival of our son.”
